School children planned big fight on Tye

TWO gangs of school pupils arranged a fight at a beauty spot.

They used mobile phones and the internet to plan the battle and some were armed with blocks of wood.

There are suggestions that some youngsters would have been armed with knives.

Around 60 children are believed to have been involved.

The fight, which was to be between students from Peacehaven Community School and Longhill School, Woodingdean, was stopped when police intervened.

Telscombe Tye was the planned battleground at 7pm last Friday.

A parent of a student from Peacehaven Community School alerted police to the fight which was organised through text messages and websites such as BEBO.

Staff at the schools knew nothing of the fight.

A group of about 60 youths congregated at the Meridian Centre, Peacehaven, and fighting broke out.

Youths were seen to pick up large pieces of wood to use as weapons.

As police arrived several youths scattered and ran off.

Numerous youths from both Peacehaven and Brighton were stopped. One was arrested for being in possession of an offensive weapon '“ a large piece of wood '“ and he was taken to Eastbourne custody centre where he received a caution for the offence.

After being dispersed by police, the Brighton youths were seen on to buses and left for the city.
