School celebrates 100 years

Among members of the board, ex-pupils and other persons of note, both the Lord Lieutenant and Lord Ampthill, joined the school for the celebrations.

The service itself was taken by another special guest, Father Kevin Taggart, the Abbot of Worth, and saw the first ever airing of the School Centenary Anthem, penned corroboratively by Battle Abbey’s Mr Anderson and Mr Langridge.

The school choir sang beautifully and afterwards the assembly retired to the library for tea, coffee and cakes.

Organiser Uta Acuna said: “The service was a fitting tribute to one hundred years of education at the Abbey and the School Centenary Anthem was particularly impressive.

“It’s always fantastic to be able to open our doors to the wider community and it was great to see so many eminent people together in the Abbot’s Hall.

“We are justly proud of our choir, our school and our heritage.

“Today’s service is just one of a number of events we have planned for our Centenary year culminating in the Summer Concert at the De La Warr Pavilion on June 23.”
