Rustington makes a fresh start for In Bloom competition

TURNING over a new leaf could help Rustington to more floral glory in South and South East in Bloom.

Judges who assessed the village for this year’s competition were particularly impressed with the contribution from the Community Payback team, which gives offenders the chance to put something back into their communities by carrying out unpaid work.

Despite rain on Monday morning, Rustington looked at its blooming best as judges Guy Clifford and Jean Griffin were taken on a tour by an official party including parish council chairman Alison Cooper, members of the Rustington in Bloom committee, which coordinates the village entry, and the council’s contractors Ferring Nurseries.

Rustington is bidding to retain its title as best village/town centre in the region, after winning the category last year, together with a gold award and the Sussex Life County Award. The Woodlands Recreation Ground was also judged in the small park of the year category.
