Robertsbridge pensioner seriously hurt in crash

A Robertsbridge woman was seriously hurt in a car accident near Heathfield on Tuesday afternoon (March 22).

Three cars collided on the A267 at Cross-in-Hand near Heathfield at around 3pm, closing the road for more than three hours.

The crash involved a blue Volkswagen Polo, a grey Seat Exeo and a red BMW 320.

The VW driver, a 77-year-old woman from Robertsbridge, was freed from her car by firefighters and taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.

Her injuries were described by Sussex Police as serious but not life-threatening. Her condition is stable.

The driver of the Seat, a 54-year-old woman from Staplehurst, Kent, and her passengers, a 24-year-old woman and a one-year-old boy, both from Uckfield, received hospital treatment for minor injuries but were later discharged.

The BMW driver, a 65-year-old woman from Buxted, was unhurt.
