refreshment area plan is kicked out

A bid to place decking on a piece of beach next to Bognor Regis Pier has been rejected by councillors.

Bognor Pier Leisure Ltd wanted to put down the 6.2m by 11m of decking in the summer to enable refreshments to be served in the area immediately east of the structure.

But Arun District Council's development control committee refused the application.

Members agreed it would be prejudicial to the character of The Steyne and Waterloo Square conservation area as well as damaging to the setting of the grade two listed pier.
