Record breaking Rye Show

A CHANGE of venue this year did not stop Rye Country Show from being a resounding success with a record attendance.

The event raised a five figure sum for Rye and Winchelsea District Memorial Hospital.

A Grand Raffle, with First Prize of a Citroen C1 car, kindly donated by Wilmoths Citroen, raised over £10,300.

The show moved from its traditional site at Salts Farm to a new venue provided by Mr and Mrs Frank Reeve at Lea Barn Farm on the Peasmarsh Road.

Simon Compton said: “The Show Committee would like to express their sincere thanks to all of the volunteers who gave their time, energy and expertise to create the Show, and to the local community and visitors who enthusiastically supported the event.

“They would also like to thank all those competitors with horses, dogs and classic cars who competed in the best possible spirit , and to the various stall holders who enthusiastically participated.

“The show was lucky to have good weather which everyone enjoyed. A number of improvements have been identified, and these will be put in place next year. “The Show committee would welcome any ideas for new events and attractions which will make the Show even better. “All the proceeds from the Show will go to the Hospital and will be used to improve patient care and services provided to the community.
