Pupils perform in annual choir competition

Now in its second year the 11 choirs, that made the finals, each performed two songs of their choice and left a difficult task for the judges to select a winner.

The event was held at the White Rock Theatre and hosted and organised by The Rotary Club of Hastings.

St John’s Meads School from Eastbourne were chosen as the worthy champions.

The judges commended several schools for individual performances and complimented them all on their presentation.

While the judges were left to their deliberations the audience was entertained by the Laton Ash Dancers and Tenors Unlimited. Its performance received a rapturous response from the young choirs who had joined the audience.

St John’s Meads choir will be performing with Tenors Unlimited on stage when they again visit the White Rock in October as part of their UK tour.

Tickets for the October tour performance are currently on sale at the theatre’s box office, for the next few weeks only, at a discounted rate.

Rotary District Governor Lynn Mitchell and Club President Brion Purdy joined Rotarian David Hooper on stage to congratulate all those that had help organise and run the event on the night.

Mr Hooper said: “This has now been firmly established as an annual event and the quality just keeps getting better.”
