Wendy Yates, the former head of ceramics at Cranleigh School, originally worked out of a small studio but due to the popularity of her classes has opened a new building.

Built by her husband, John Walsh, the new studio is much bigger, and features everything a potter could need including a kiln.

Wendy said: “I wanted to keep ceramics alive - a pottery class revival.

“It’s very therapeutic. It’s a really relaxing place to come.”

Wendy works to suit everyone, catering class times to demand.

She takes up to six students in a class but runs courses for up to ten people.

Wendy is keen to support the next generation of potters. She added: “As long as we cover our costs I’m happy.”

To mark the opening of the new studio Wendy is holding an open day this Sunday.

Running from 10am until 4pm, visitors are welcome with parking available.

In the afternoon there will be demonstrations from Matt, a former professional pottery thrower and Lorraine, a sculptor.
