The ‘eSussex’ project, led by East Sussex County Council in partnership with Brighton and Hove City Council, was launched in May 2013 to improve internet access to homes and businesses.

BT is the delivery partner for the £34m project which is being funded by the county council, central Government through Broadband Delivery UK and BT.

Speaking at a meeting in County Hall, Lewes, on Tuesday Rupert Simmons (Con, Heathfield), ESCC’s cabinet member for the economy, said: “I’m delighted to confirm we have raised another £6m for further investment in broadband across the county.

“This will enable the more challenging engineering problems to be overcome.”

The project is due to be completed next spring, and Mr Simmons stressed the importance of access to broadband both to the county’s economy and the wellbeing of East Sussex residents.
