Proposed tip could close three businesses

OWNERS of three businesses in the pretty Downland village of Washington say they would be forced to close, if plans for a landfill site on land owned by Wiston Estate are approved.

Castle Kitchens, Rock House Nurseries and Washington Towers are right next to the 59- acre Rock Common Quarry, which French-owned Veolia Environmental Services Ltd have applied to fill with rubbish over the next 25-30 years.

Castle Kitchens currently employs 57 local people in the preparation and supply of ready-meals to the airline industry and leading supermarkets.
