Poverty fears take their toll

A survey by Christians Against Poverty, which has a centre in Bognor Regis, shows more than one in three of its clients have been suicidal.

A total of 37 per cent of the respondents said they had tried to take their lives or had thought about it before they sought help.

The CAP centre at the Bognor Vineyard Fairtrade shop in Waterloo Square has been open for 18 months.

It has taken on 40 clients. Many of them are being helped to become debt-free within five years by using sustainable and practical solutions and teaching good money management skills.

Centre manager Caroline Creese explained: "Many in the local community are in a desperate situation. I would urge anyone in need to contact me on 01243 870840 if they are at all worried about their financial situation."
