Pot holes in Littlehampton ‘ignored’ claims councillor

WEST Sussex County Council has been criticised by a Littlehampton councillor for “ignoring” urgent repairs needed to some of the town’s severely pot-holed roads.

Despite an operation conducted by the county council to repair the thousands of pot holes across the area, West Sussex county, Arun district and Littlehampton town councillor Dr James Walsh said swifter action was still needed.

In a letter to the Gazette, Beach Ward town councillor Dr Walsh said he welcomed the council’s efforts but said: “Now there is another problem that the county council highway department is ignoring, in spite of my frequent attempts to get action.

“The section of Beaumont Park between White Horses Way and Leeward Road is not just full of potholes, but is actually gradually breaking up over a large area.”

He noted that the poor surface could cause “serious damage” to cars, cyclist and motor cyclists using the roads.

The county council said it is spending £8.25m on repairing the holes and improving road infrastructure.

But a spokesman stressed residents still needed to report potholes to the council.
