At a meeting of the development control committee on Wednesday, officers said they had worked with applicant Persimmon Homes for 20 months to come up with a ‘very well thought-out scheme’ for the site at Dappers Lane.

It will include 25 affordable houses, an attenuation basin to help prevent flooding and a children’s play area with 10 pieces of ‘challenging’ timber equipment.

The site, which is currently used for the grazing of horses, sits just north of Gardens Close and Woodlands Close.

The council received more than 100 objections to the plans, with concerns raised about traffic and safety along the rather narrow Dappers Lane, most of which has no footpath.

The committee, though, was happy with what was being proposed and voted unanimously to approve the application.
