ELECTION 2015: Horsham - Jim Duggan (Peace Party)

Most people say, “Yes Jim I agree with you that all NHS care should be free for everybody, that there should be a home for everyone at affordable prices, that all education and training is free throughout our lifetimes, and that we could care for every single vulnerable man, woman and child.

Yes Jim, I agree with you, but how are we going to pay for it?”

The answer is simple - war and conflict costs money as well as lives and it costs money for many years after the conflict has finished, repairing the damage it causes.

You can’t fight war with more war but you can stop war and make peace. Peace is cheap.

That is the global message of the Peace Party and it translates well at a local level and particularly well in a place like the Horsham district because we are so lucky to live somewhere so environmentallypleasant and economically buoyant.

We don’t have to face many of the daily struggles that many other communities in the UK have to face and we have more resources to enable us to find peaceful, community-based solutions to local problems.

We can start by being mindful of our neighbours, asking ourselves can I help them in some way and to think about them even if, on the outside, they seem fine - you too might be a neighbour in need of help, even with insignificant things that you just can’t do.

If we put helping each other to make better things at the core and build on that, the less money we will need to ‘pay for it’.
