Police appeal for information to help catch Marek's killer

The police officers have been searching for the murderer of Marek Pudlowski for 35 days.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Johns, who is leading the inquiry, said important facts about Mr Pudlowski's final hours were still missing.

"We are now one month into this inquiry and, despite a protracted and detailed investigation, we are still looking for witnesses and information in order that we can establish what happened to Mr Pudlowski on August 3.

"We are still working very closely with members of the local expanding communities team who continue to help us engage with the Polish and other Eastern European communities in the area.

"This is a vital line of inquiry which we are continuing to pursue and we very much want to forge a good working relationship with them," he stated.

The body of Mr Pudlowski, 51, was found on a seafront bench in Waterloo Square by a passer-by at about 3.30pm on August 3.

A murder inquiry was launched after he was discovered to have serious bruising to his upper body.

Appeals have been translated into Russian and Polish in a bid to find potential key witnesses to his movements earlier that day.

It is believed Mr Pudlowski was killed in the Bognor area. CCTV footage leads police to be confident he was alive at 3pm on the day of his death.

The post mortem was unable to ascertain the exact time of death. There is no evidence to suggest this was a racially-motivated crime.

Chief Inspector Jim Bartlett, the police commander for the Arun district, said: "I would like to reassure the Bognor community that we continue to do all we can to establish what happened.

"I would ask anyone who can provide any assistance or information to contact us.

"I would again particularly like to appeal to the local Polish community who live in the town to come forward with any information, no matter how small, that may be able to assist the inquiry."
