Playden girl’s Macmillan Cancer Support head shave

Isabelle Johnston, aged 10, is undergoing the feat for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity on Tuesday (December 1).

The youngster, who attends St Michael’s School in Playden, decided to do the fundraiser as several members of her family have suffered from cancer in the past.

Her grandmother beat lymphoma cancer but she has lost three great-grandparents to the disease.

Her mother, Laura Fuggle, said: “As a mum I am very proud of Isabelle for what she is doing as I know my other three daughters wouldn’t do this in a million years. I think Isabelle is so brave.

“She approached us and we said she could do it. We have also checked with her school as to whether this would be acceptable and it has said it would be okay as it’s for a good cause.

“With money on her sponsorship forms and online, she has already raised £1,800. Her original target was £500.”

Laura added the manager of Rye Retreat had kindly volunteered one of her hairdressers to carry out the head shave next week.

She said: “Isabelle has said that Macmillan needs the money more than she needs her hair.

“She would like to raise even more money, as she is going to have a very chilly head for Christmas.”
