Plan to rebuild Walberton care home after Christmas closure

THE owners of a Walberton nursing home which closed two days after Christmas have revealed plans to rebuild it.

The Prestige Group has submitted proposals to redevelop Walberton Place, in Yapton Road.

Prestige’s announcement in late November that it would be closing the home on December 27 prompted families and West Sussex County Council into making a frantic search for new accommodation for the 25 residents.

At the time, a spokesman for Prestige said: “The home was inherited following the collapse of Southern Cross and this brought a difficult set of circumstances, including historic under-investment which we have tried hard to address. The company and its directors have suffered significant financial loss in trying to keep the home open.

“The decision to close the home has not been taken lightly, as our absolute priority is always the people who we care for, their families and our staff.”

Other planning applications in the latest list submitted to Arun District Council in the Gazette area include:

ANGMERING: single-storey extension, William Older Play School, Arundel Road.
