Pitching in with cash for tents

Among the beneficiaries are the 3rd Newhaven Scout Group which will buy two new tents and the Access in Seaford and Newhaven Committee which will use its award to provide access for the disabled in the area.

NIPPERS Playscheme has been given money to pay for the hiring of Shakespeare Hall for its annual summer playscheme and an award to the University of the Third Age will be used to help with events and outings for local senior citizens.

The Mayor of Newhaven, Cllr Dennis Forsdike, said: 'The town council has a small budget each year put aside for the provision of grants. Applications are welcomed from any organisation which intends to use the money to benefit residents of Newhaven.

'The committee deciding how to allocate the money always face a hard task, as so many organisations ask for funding and the money available is limited.

'I am really pleased that the town council has been able to help so many sections of the local community.'
