Four councils, Eastbourne, Hastings, Rother and Wealden had joined forces to obtain a more cost-effective contract that would cover not only those items currently collected but also glass and possibly food waste.

Despite bitter winds on the evening of Friday June 22, the Open Garden at Fairlight End raised £2582. This was split £2066 for NGS (National Gardens Scheme charities) and £516 for Pett Village Hall. Chris and Robin Hutt are hugely grateful to all their friends and neighbours in Pett who supported them so generously in staging this successful event.

Church Services on Sunday July 1 - Holy Communion with David Wotton, St Mary & St Peter, Pett at 9:30am; Sunday Service at the Methodist Chapel at 10:45am.

At POPP’s on Tuesday July 3 there will the Allsorts Choir with Shirley Green. POPP’s runs from 10:30am to 2:30pm at Pett Village Hall and includes a two course lunch for just £5.

On Wednesday July 4 Sally and her team will be ready to welcome you with excellent coffee and a great selection of cakes at the Village Coffee Morning. Everyone is welcome from 10am.

On Thursday July 5 Flicks in the Village will be showing J Edgar (15). Directed by Clint Eastwood, this film stars Leonardo de Caprio and Judi Dench. During his lifetime, J. Edgar Hoover would rise to be the most powerful man in America. As head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation for nearly 50 years, he would stop at nothing to protect his country. Through eight presidents and three wars, Hoover waged battle against threats both real and perceived, often bending the rules to keep his countrymen safe. His methods were at once ruthless and heroic, with the admiration of the world his most coveted, if ever elusive, prize.

Hoover was a man who placed great value on secrets-particularly those of others--and was not afraid to use that information to exert authority over the leading figures in the nation. Understanding that knowledge is power and fear poses opportunity, he used both to gain unprecedented influence and to build a reputation that was both formidable and untouchable. He was as guarded in his private life as he was in his public one, allowing only a small and protective inner circle into his confidence.

As seen through the eyes of Hoover himself, J. Edgar explores the personal and public life and relationships of a man who could distort the truth as easily as he upheld it during a life devoted to his own idea of justice, often swayed by the darker side of power.

The film starts at 7:30pm with refreshments served from 7pm. Membership forms are available on the night or you can always pop into the Butchers shop in Pett and grab an application form.
