Pett and Pett Level

Pett WI Centenary Tea Party: Well, what an afternoon it was! Around 90 ladies came in their finery, complete with hats and fascinators, to Pett Village Hall to celebrate 100 years of the WI. The majority of them came from WI’s in the local area and there were also some village ladies. The theme was ‘Putting on the Ritz’ and the hall looked splendid with tables spread with white tablecloths and pretty vintage china. A little posy of flowers in the centre of each table completed the picture.

As guests arrived they were greeted with music from the Corelli String Quartet and could enjoy a glass of something fizzy from the Bubbles Bar, served by a bartender resplendent in DJ! After a welcome from Pett WI President Heather Godwin and a rousing rendition of Jerusalem, the ladies settled down to a delicious tea of sandwiches followed by home made scones and cakes with tea served by DJ clad waiters. It certainly made you feel special. Then there was a great fashion show, delivered by Niche of Rye, accompanied by a brilliant young harpist, Saffie Burgess.

A vote of thanks to Heather, Pett WI Treasurer Wendy Burgess and all the other members who had worked so hard in preparing for the day, was given by Kathryn Hutson, Chair of the East Sussex Federation of Women’s Institutes and the general view was that a great afternoon had been had by all!
