You could be able to watch the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III next year broadcast on a big screen in Bognor Regis.

Bognor Regis Town Council's events, promotions and leisure committee agreed this week (November 14) to recommend a budget of £5,000 for the event from the council’s policy and resources committee.

A report by the council's events officer recommended the big screen should be in Hotham Park.

"This is a momentous occasion that should be widely enjoyed by the community," the officer said.

"In previous years big screen broadcasting of the royal weddings and the Queen's Jubilee have been exceptionally well attended and appreciated by the community."

The report said usually recommendations for the following year's budgets were made to the policy and resources committee in the autumn and then confirmed with the precept in the new year.

"However, as demand will be very high for supplies over this weekend, with the entire nation celebrating at the same time, it is the officer suggestion that a recommendation be made to the policy and resources committee at their next meeting, with an agreement to guarantee a fund for the event in the 2023/24 budget," the report said.

"This will therefore enable suppliers to be booked as soon as possible."

Committee members questioned the venue, asking whether it should be held at Place St Maur, but said there could be a weight problem on the new surface there and it might not be big enough for the spectators.

They agreed to request the funding for a location to be confirmed.
