Major Horsham roadworks spark resident's 'nightmare'
David Watts says he has faced daily problems getting his car in and out of his home in Worthing Road since gas repair works started in February. “I do not have sufficient clearance to get in and out of my driveway,” he said.
And he has now damaged a wheel of his car while trying to squeeze past roadway fences and bollards. “It’s been a nightmare and been like it for weeks,” he said.

Hide AdHe said the accident happened on March 20. “I can’t turn right out of my drive without hitting the kerb or the contractors’ fencing so I tried to turn left and reverse into my neighbour’s drive but hit a bollard with the front of the car, and then the left kerb with the left rear wheel.
“There was not enough room to avoid the cones and the kerb and despite my best efforts I nicked the wheel on next door’s kerb.”
Now, he said, he faces having to pay out £180 for repairs. He said he had contacted contractors undertaking the roadworks – I and G – to make a claim for compensation but that it had been refused. "I was shocked and annoyed,” he said.
Contractors I and G have been approached for comment.
Traffic chaos was first reported in the area with gridlock around Broadbridge Heath when Worthing Road was first shut in February. Many described the situation as ‘ridiculous’ and ‘a nightmare.’
