Barratt David Wilson Homes, who is building the Meadowburne Place development in Eastbourne, has donated the money to the foodbank. This will support the foodbank’s winter initiatives and help to boost food levels when stocks run low.

Eastbourne Foodbank provides emergency food for people in financial crisis, in-house welfare benefits, and debt advice to help get people out of poverty to reduce their need to use a foodbank. It is now regularly providing more than 2,500 food parcels each month and in November that figure reached 2,753 - 986 of those were for children.

Kimberley Benson, sales and marketing director at Barratt David Wilson Southern Counties, said: “Foodbanks are already seeing unprecedented levels of usage, including in Eastbourne, so this winter we wanted to help those directly affected in the community and spread a little bit of Christmas joy. We hope to alleviate some pressure on the foodbank, helping to boost supply levels and prepare for the next few months of demand.”

Jess Holliday, from Eastbourne Foodbank said: “This has had a real impact on people visiting the foodbank and enabled many of our clients to enjoy some of the Christmas treats they would otherwise not be able to afford for their family. We would like to thank Barratt David Wilson Homes for this very generous gift. It will make a real difference to people in financial crisis.”
