Going home for Christmas -lost dog trekked seven miles

A PLAISTOW woman was shocked to find her lost black Labrador had trekked seven miles to her former home in Haslemere.

Beverley King’s 11 year old dog Trooper went missing on Halloween (Monday October 31).

The family were beside themselves with worry until one day, six weeks later, they received a call to say Trooper had been found at the home they had lived in two years ago.

Beverley, 55, from Shillinglee Road, Plaistow said: “It was just unbelievable, we couldn’t believe it was him at first.

“He had been gone for so long we never thought we would get him back. It it just a miracle.”

She had been told that he had been hit by a car, so assumed he had died.

However, on December 8 she received a call to say a black Labrador had been barking at the back door of the home in Haslemere.

Trooper suffered a few broken bones in his foot and had lost one third of his body weight.

Beverley told the County Times he is doing well and ‘has found his bark again’.

She added that she wanted to thank the dog warden and website DogLost for helping her in the search for her beloved pet.

She said: “DogLost is a website where missing and found dogs are listed and local helpers are notified with regular updates.

“With the increase in dog thefts these services are even more important.”

Since Trooper has been safely returned Beverley is urging others to volunteer to help the DogLost service.

She said: “If a dog goes missing I get a text and an email with all the details so that I can keep an eye out for the missing dog.”
