Former Bognor Regis pub beer garden could be nursing home extension

Plans have been resubmitted for a two storey side extension creating 16 additional bedrooms with en-suite, a new lift and additional living space at Aronel Cottage Nursing Home in Highfield Road (resubmission of BR/135/21/PL).
A design and access statement with the plans said adjustments were made after withdrawing previous applications.

Hide AdIt said Arun has one of the highest older populations when compared to other local authority areas within the county and life expectancy in the district is high.
"The land on which the extension is proposed was acquired by Aronel nursing home from the owner of the Prince of Wales pub," the statement said.
"The land was originally used as a beer garden."
It concluded: "The proposal provides much needed high quality facilities for the elderly, thereby providing a valuable contributionn to Arun district targets.
"The scheme follows a design led approach, taking into consideration the site's constraints and opportunities.

Hide Ad"The design respects the existing neighbouring buildings which are used as reference.
"Great care has been taken in detailing and material choice providing a cohesive relationship between the existing and the new."
Aronel Cottage has been providing care to residents in the Bognor Regis area for over 40 years with registered nurses on duty 24-hours a day, its website says.
Formerly a small, private school, the building has been extensively modernised and upgraded and the current registration is 38.
