Police said the incident happened at 4.55am on August 25.

A Hastings Police spokesperson said: “A male smashed the door to a bakery and tried to take the contents of the till before he was disturbed by staff, he ran after stealing the charity boxes.

"If you have been the victim of a burglary, please report online, or by calling 101 – always dial 999 in an emergency/burglary in action.”
