RNLI numbers show lifeboats attended a wide range of incidents including commerical vessels in trouble, adrift fishermen, struggling swimmers, and leisure boaters in difficulty.

Overall, crews were launched on 65 rescue missions.

Of the 76 rescued, one was classed as life saved, a specific criteria where a person would have died if not for the RNLI arriving on scene.

A spokesperson for RNLI said: “Our volunteers carry their pager at all times and willingly drop tools and drop everything to respond to a call for help day or night, come rain or shine, to help those in distress.

“All volunteers give their time freely to this remarkable charity and everyone involved at the RNLI station are grateful for the continued public support in helping meet the ever increasing cost with kind donations and contributions.”

The figures also show that Littlehampton RNLI was the second busiest station in the Sussex region, while more than a third of the launches occured after nightfall.

A variety of volunteers are in operation, including lifeboat crews, trainee crews, and shore crews.
