Parking tickets being handed out 'like confetti' in Aldwick

Parking tickets are being handed out to law-breaking motorists in Aldwick 'like confetti', a police officer has said.

Sergeant Craig Wilkie told councillors that members of the policing neighbourhood team were cracking down hard on drivers who abused the kerbsides along Aldwick Road.

The level of double parking and parking on double yellow lines around the Tesco Express branch has long angered council members. Sgt Wilkie said the police were well aware of the situation and the need to keep traffic flowing along the busy road.

"The local PC and police community support officer go down there most mornings," he said.

"Plenty of tickets are being issued. They are like confetti.

"They have even issued parking tickets to delivery drivers.

"They have also tackled drivers who are parking in front of the bus stop opposite.

"We have been getting a lot of complaints from the motorists concerned, but they are parking illegally."

n Motorists who parked on a new pedestrian crossing in Middleton have been labelled 'the pits'.

The safety feature was installed on Elmer Road.

Within a week, drivers were parking on the black-and-white stripes as well as the zigzag lines leading up to the crossing.

County councillor Christina Freeman said attempts to get them to move were met with abuse.

"Those motorists are the pits," she said.

"They are just parking there so they can go into the convenience store, but there is a free car park opposite and they just can't be bothered to use it."

Middleton Parish Council chairman Paul Wotherspoon said: "You can park on the shop forecourt so there is no excuse for anyone to park on the crossing."
