Town needs a good clean-up

DURING the course of a normal working day, I drive around Worthing for between seven and eight hours, during which time I observe countless drivers '“ of all ages and ilkes '“ using mobile phones.

I also witness endless cyclists on the pavement riding with no hands, on the phone, or in a different world, engrossed in their personal headset.

Sometimes, they use the road, where they ignore red lights, other road-users, and appear ignorant of hand-signals '“ although some unconventional ones have been seen.

When it gets dark, things take on a new perspective.

Cyclists are obviously above the law when it comes to having lights as they don't, and carry on breaking every law in the book unchallenged.

The number of vehicles with one headlight inoperative is unbelievable.

Quite regularly, a near-miss ensues, when what appears to be a scooter coming towards you, is, in fact, yet another one-eyed moron, whose vehicle is never inspected prior to use, well aware they will never be stopped in this borough.

Where, oh where, is our illustrious police?

Why are these laws totally ignored, and enforcement zero?

I don't want to hear the old chestnut, "paperwork" '“ it's old hat, and doesn't wash anymore.

We need police out there doing the job for which they are well paid.

Roll on the day we can vote for a chief constable, one who will carry out our wishes, rather than some chauffeur-driven political icon with fancy epaulettes.

Worthing Borough Council, and the NCP have done a brilliant job in alienating quality visitors, and now wonder why we have a ghost town full of the feckless.

Well, I don't.

This town needs a damn good clean-up, but has anyone got the will?
