Why can't they produce a map?

In last Friday's letters pages, Roger Siggery complained that Sidley had been wiped off the map. What map?

I say this because on January 1, I emailed East Sussex highways asking for a map showing the various joining/leaving points along the route of the BHLR (their flagship piece of road engineering).

Not receiving a satisfactory reply, I phoned them last week, only to be told: “We are not map makers, try Google.”

This I did but my screen said ‘this page cannot be displayed’.

I, and I suspect a number of Observer readers, find it amazing to put it mildly that the highways department, having spent over £130m on a three-mile stretch of road cannot provide a map showing those who want to use that road at what points they can both join and leave it.

Maybe a few more millions would help solve the problem!
