‘Thanks so much’ to bonfire society

SINCE a child, my mother Lizzy Binstead has supported the Littlehampton Bonfire Society torchlight procession, and she has introduced us to this wonderful tradition.

Although born in Rustington, Bournemouth is my hometown and since babes-in-arms, my children Hannah, eight and Aaron, five, have travelled down with me each year.

We mark our calendar and look forward to donning our hats and gloves.

We all take our “usual spot”, and with toes tipping over the kerb, and pockets bulging with coins, we watch with wide eyes, marvelling at the custom and costumes of the torch bearers, the size of the steam engines spilling out smoke, and the precision of the marching bands.

Toes tapping and arms waving, we love to watch your local community dressed up and joining together through dance, parades and elaborate floats.

Your bonfire is humungous and a welcome warmth, as we watch mesmerising, dazzling fireworks shooting over singles, couples, groups and families.

Children pluck from candy floss bags whilst teenagers huddle and camaraderie overcomes trepidation for the next fairground ride. Memories are made and may fade, but are recaptured each year,

Littlehampton Bonfire Society, thank you so much from us in Bournemouth and we can’t wait to give you your 60th anniversary cheer.
