Spy recruits gather in Billingshurst

Watch out James Bond, over 40 new spy recruits were in training over three days of the May half term holidays at St. Mary’s Church in Billingshurst.

The Spy Kids Holiday Club, run jointly by the churches in Billingshurst and members of the Splash! Christian school assembly team, welcomed children into the trainee spy academy with a host of fun activities to keep even the keenest spy busy.

The churches in Billingshurst regularly combine to run an after-school Messy Church including art/craft activities, celebration time and meal together. This is the first time the Messy Church team has jointly run a holiday club.

This half term saw trainee spies, led by ‘M’ and ‘008’, together with ‘Snoop Spy Dog’, undertake a range of activities including games, crafts, songs and drama based on the theme of discovering Jesus as a different kind of King – one who came to serve and to forgive. When asked what the children liked best some of the answers included; ‘having a code name’, ‘cracking codes each morning to discover a Bible verse,’ ‘learning songs with actions’ and ‘making spy gadgets out of junk’.

For any would-be spies who missed this top secret training session another opportunity was available as ‘Spy Kids… Returns’ took place at Messy Church, in Billingshurst Community Centre on Wednesday June 11 from 3.30pm. All children and families were welcome to join for crafts, a celebration and a hot meal.
