SPAR store in Horsham ‘Stops for tea’ to support the ChildLine Schools Service

For a small donation, hundreds of customers enjoyed a cuppa and a cake, as well as the chance to take part in a variety of in store activities.

The event was part of a national week of ‘Stop for tea’ activities hosted by SPAR stores across the UK which took place between 16-24 November.

All the money raised from ‘Stop for tea’ week will go towards the ChildLine Schools Service, which has been set up to give primary school children the awareness they need to recognise abuse, and to seek help sooner.

By 2016, trained volunteers from the ChildLine Schools Service will have reached 1.7m children through 25,000 primary school visits in the UK. Through assemblies and smaller classroom based workshops they will help children to understand abuse, give them the confidence to talk about it and to know who to turn to if they need help.

NSPCC account manager Charly Meehan, said: “SPAR is an amazing supporter of the NSPCC and we’re always really impressed with the way its staff and customers are keen to get stuck in to fundraising activities. This latest fundraising initiative has seen thousands of cups of tea being drunk by customers across the UK, helping to raise valuable funds for the NSPCC’s ChildLine Schools Service. It is thanks to SPAR’s commitment and the generosity of their customers that they have managed to raise so much. I would like to thank the staff and customers at the Coltsfoot Drive SPAR store for their support.”

SPAR Charity Controller, Patricia Wheway said: “SPAR is proud to support the ChildLine Schools Service which plays an important role in raising awareness amongst school children in the communities around our stores.”

The NSPCC and SPAR have been working in partnership since 2006 and have already raised over £3.5 million to help protect children across the UK.
