School’s new ‘waste digester’

Slinfold CE Primary School has recently installed a ‘green cone’ waste digester to dispose of their food waste. This new waste digester is an alternative to composting, still with the aim of reducing school waste, landfill and greenhouse gases, but does not attract vermin.

Mrs Hamer, school eco co-ordinator, said: “Getting the green cone is another step forward for our Eco-school status. The children on the Eco-team - Green Dragons will responsible for disposing of fruit waste into the new green cone.”

John Burrell school groundsman, has been busy getting the green cone in position ready for the new term. He said: “It hasn’t been an easy task due to the huge amount of water we’ve had lately, and there has been some background reading to do.”

The Green Dragons are looking forward to seeing the mico-organisms do their job and reduce the school waste.
