Pupils from Christ’s Hospital take flight

Recently 23 Christ’s Hospital pupils, who are all members of the School’s Combined Cadet Force (CCF), had the opportunity to visit RAF Benson for a day’s flying.

RAF Benson is currently home to two thirds of the RAF’s support helicopter force and is one of the RAFs busiest stations.

The day was a highly anticipated event for the pupils as they each had the experience of flying an aircraft themselves alongside an experienced pilot. Once the plane was up in the air, each of the cadets had the opportunity to take control of the plane and were taught how to use the flight instruments before handing the controls back to the RAF pilot in charge who safely landed the aircraft.

Christ’s Hospitals RAF Section Commander, Flt Lt David Mulae commented: “It is fantastic that our pupils had this opportunity to be airborne. For many cadets, to have experienced flying is a memory that will remain with them for a long time.”

One hundred and twenty pupils at are members of Christ’s Hospital’s cadet force, which includes Army and Navy sections as well as the RAF unit.
