Kieran and Sophie, who previously attended Collyer’s, spoke to current students about higher education study and pursuing a career following a degree in Geography.

Subject Leader for Geography, John Hardwick said: “The aim of the sessions was to explain to the first year Collyer’s students what Higher Education courses are available for application next term.

“The students thoroughly enjoyed the talks, which gave them a first-hand account of what life is like studying Geography at university. It was incredibly kind of Kieran and Sophie to take time out to speak to the next generation.’’

The guest speakers presented to students during a morning of talks and also spent time giving one-to-one advice and guidance. The talks formed part of the college’s ‘Planning Your Future’ initiative, which helps to prepare students for their A-level study, progression onto degrees and pursuing job opportunities.

Assistant Principal Melanie Russell was delighted with the presentations: “Thank you so much to Kieran and Sophie for taking time out of their busy schedules to come and visit us today. Their enthusiasm and passion for their subject has been truly inspiring. It has been a wonderful opportunity for our students and will help them with future progression.”

Collyer’s students were attentive, enthusiastic and fascinated to hear about Kieran and Sophie’s experiences at university, and and how they prepared for higher education while at Collyer’s.

Geography teacher Kate Walters said: “It was a pleasure to welcome back Kieron and Sophie who are studying Geography at Sussex and Southampton respectively. Many of the students were clearly inspired and asked a whole range of questions pertinent to their future academic study in this field.”

Melanie Russell added: “The geography sessions fit in really well with our ‘Planning Your Future’ initiative at Collyer’s and I know that the reaction to the expert speakers has been massively positive. Thanks must go to Kieran, Sophie, Kate and John for making this wonderful opportunity possible!”
