It's in Highway Code

IN your article concerning the need for traffic to be slowed down in De La Warr Road, Cllr Kenward said that he thought the average motorist on that road doesn't realise there is a 30mph speed limit.

All motorists who drive anywhere in Britain should be aware that the Highway Code states that in a built-up area or an area with street lights, the national speed limit is 30mph unless signs show other limits.

This is stated twice in the Highway Code booklet, once under the heading Speed Limits and again on the illustrated page of the Table of Speed Limits.

This rule is perfectly clear but too many drivers appear to have forgotten it or ignore it.
