Good riddance

THE old joke goes "Nostalgia ain't what it used to be!" And it surely rings true here.

Suddenly the two demolished brick beach shelters have become icons for all that was great and good along our Promenade.

In actual fact they were mostly used as shelters by winos, junkies and layabouts each day and the ensuing detritus they created bore witness to that fact: empty plastic White Lightning bottles, used needles, crisp packets, fag packets, dog ends, crushed beer cans, dirty Kleenex, cast-off underpants, condoms and the ever-pervading stench of stale urine.

Well, at least the pong will have no place to loiter now, not with those blow-through southerly winds it won't.

Good riddance to the pair of shelters and all that went with them!
