Glebelands pupils throw themselves into a day of activities

Students in Year 7 undertook a Carnival Day, learning the art of Samba drumming, choreographing their own dance and designing their own Brazilian masks in Art.

Year 8 students took part in some year group bonding activities at Adrenaline Adventure which is an exciting and exhilarating facility based in Weybridge that combines high and low rope challenges.

It’s fair to say that this activity was a real hit with those who went, many overcoming personal fears, with one student commenting ‘I never thought that I would be able to do this, but I did’.

Year 9 were engaged in two different activities across the day. For half of the day the year group were tasked with a building project honing their engineering skills in small teams.

The aim of the session was to design and build accommodation that could be used as shelter following an Earthquake.

The other half of the day was looking at the issue of domestic violence and abuse by watching a live and interactive drama production.

This thought provoking piece of theatre was followed up with a teacher-led session examining this societal issue in more detail.

Year 10 were also engaged in two different activities across the day.

For half of the day the year group were taught some cognitive memory skills by an agency specialising in student presentations to help them in preparation for their exams next year.

For the afternoon, the year group donned PE kit and partook in team-building, problem-solving games and activities on the field to prepare them for the busy year ahead.

Whilst on the surface these activities seem poles apart, they both deliver key skills needed by our students to thrive at school.
