Fish are caught and then sold as food

IN response to G.A. Harris’s letter (Gazette, May 31), firstly, these fish aren’t caught merely to “exhibit” for our pride and satisfaction.

They are caught and sold as food.

The pictures are taken of exceptional specimens for people to enjoy.

I have had many dozens of people from all over Sussex commenting on how interesting it is to see the creatures that live on our doorstep.

They are local interest stories for local people.

These creatures are eaten, not wholesalely slaughtered “trophies”.

Mr Harris goes on to suggest that these fine specimens should be left to swim free “as nature intended”. What nature intended is that these fine specimens hunt each other down and tear one another asunder, while trying to avoid the same fate.

It’s not a bed of roses out there, it’s pain, suffering, death, every single day.

It’s a food chain – and we are at the top.

Mr Harris states that he eats no seafood. So why comment on a subject on which you have no involvement or knowledge?

Go back to eating your vegetables and let us fish-eaters get on with our fish.
