Do something about blight

Who is the owner of that crumbling, rotting ruin of a building glowering over the small businesses in Western Road? Why, J D Wetherspoon's of course.

Wetherspoon’s publicity machine paints a glowing picture of a caring company who will brighten up this little town no end.

Well, maybe they will someday, for those who welcome them, but in the meantime we are left with this miserable mess, metal clad and rusting, festering and even dangerous edifice.

Why, when contemplating the millions they expect to make out of the local townspeople didn’t the planners in anticipation of these millions, design with the help of locals, an exciting temporary frontage at the street level of the building?

That would have endeared them to the public they hope to attract.

Sometimes I wonder if there is something more about this project’s neglect than we are told.

However, if it is still going to open one day, Wetherspoon’s could do something about the blight this ruin is casting on this happy, busy little road.
