Development hell

AS one of three remaining members of the East Preston Village Hall committee I am writing to plead for a campaign to save our hall. While I fully understand and support the members who resigned, I myself feel that there is too much at stake to just throw in the towel.

The village hall is at the heart of so much that goes on in the village - I feel very strongly that the so-called "Action Group" grossly misled the most vulnerable people in the village and that many people who voted did NOT understand fully what they were voting for or against – the wording on the voting slip was quite misleading.

This group has now disbanded, claiming victory!

The abandonment of the proposed extension is very short-sighted – even in these difficult economic times we should still look to the future.

The plans were there for all to see and councillors were available to discuss them as far back as May, 2008.

On September 21 we need everyone to attend the Village Hall Foundation meeting. We need the support of the whole community if the village hall is to remain open. We also need people to come forward to become members of a new committee – with no-one to run it there will be no alternative but to close the hall. To date, it has been one of the most successful village halls in the country. Please help us to continue providing this valuable asset to the community.
