Dancers at Sophie’s Studio in Horsham raised £176 for CLIC Sargent at their annual showcase in August 2012. For each ticket sold for the show, 50p was donated to CLIC Sargent as one of the students at the school.

Ellie Mae was helped by the charity’s team of CLIC Sargent Social Workers at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Surrey during her treatment for cancer.

Ellie Mae was diagnosed with Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in August 2012 at age 4, and finished her treatment at the end of 2014.

Her Mum Nikki spoke about her treatment: “She has had a tough time, suffering with the side effect of osteopenia which left her unable to walk for 14 months.

“She started classes at Sophie’s Studio in February this year to help her as she learned to walk again & regained mobility.”

Led by principal Sophie McEwan, Sophie’s Studio has been open for around two years. Sophie said: “The show was incredible! The kids and ladies were amazing, as was the audience.”

CLIC Sargent fundraiser Dan Powell visited the school to accept a cheque on behalf of the charity and thank Sophie and the students for their support.

Dan said “A huge thank you to Sophie and all of the students at Sophie’s Studios!

“It is fantastic that you were not only able to help Ellie learn to walk again, but also raise funds so that we can carry on with our vital work with other children and young people with cancer.”
