Council keenly aware of staff parking issue

Staff parking is an issue that is always carefully considered by Arun District Council.

It is reviewed regularly to ensure that staff are able to serve the public in the most efficient way, but without impacting on the town, traders or residents.

The council also actively encourages non-essential car users to join its car-sharing pool, or even cycle wherever possible, in order to reduce the impact of cars on the environment and local parking.

Whilst the council is satisfied with car-parking provision in and around the town centre, especially with regard to the free disc parking scheme on offer in nearby St Martin's and Anchor Springs, it is happy to listen and try to find a positive solution.

After similar concerns were raised about Manor House car park recently by trader Andrew Sleeman, the council is proposing to allocate a section of the car park for visitors and shoppers only.

Arun staff will not be allowed to park in this area, freeing up more space.

It is expected that this area will be allocated and adopted by the start of summer.

Hopefully, this move will allow more space for visitors to Littlehampton over the summer, without putting additional strain on local off-street parking provision.
