Chaos in the High Street

Once again the new school year has started and once again the High Street in Battle is chaos!

I live the Hastings side of Battle and I have to get my child to school every day because there is no room on the bus that starts at Hastings station. By the time it gets to us it is packed. We were once refused entry because there was just no room.

So every day I leave home at 8.10am and take my child to Claverham and today was just another typical day.

Holland and Barrett were unloading a lorry, which was parked on double yellow lines where the road is narrow. So it’s single file traffic for us. Great if you are going up the High Street as it is your right of way. However, coming back from Claverham is another matter.

I dropped my child off in Tolgates and pulled out towards Battle centre and there I sat! I crawled along the North Trade, got stuck on the roundabout and finally got to the High Street. There is now a van outside the doctor’s surgery double parked causing yet more chaos.

I finally crawl down to the Holland and Barrett lorry and sit there because it isn’t our right of way. The journey after that is fine!!

There is always someone parked where they should not be on the High Street. Really there should be no parking at all on the High Street. I even have to pay £1 if I have to go to the doctors.

Why is there still parking in Battle High Street? Why can’t deliveries be done before 8am or after 6pm?

I am so, so fed up with this journey that is taking me an extra half an hour a day and I am sure many others are too. It took a long time for North Trade road to get double yellow lines and we still have problems there.

Thank you for reading this, I hope you don’t get to experience it!
