OLYMPIC TORCH 6.50pm: Eddie Izzard - “This run was far easier”

COMEDIAN Eddie Izzard is used to running marathons, but his gentle 300-yard run along the Bexhill seafront.

On completing his 300-yard run with the Olympic Torch Eddie Izzard said, “Just a typical day in Bexhill!”

“It’s a beautiful experience I didn’t think there would be so much excitement, it’s been great fun but I didn’t realise it would be over so quickly.”

“It was a wonderful experience to be one of 8,000 runners throughout the UK.”

Eddie who is well-known for completing 43 marathons, jokingly said, “This run was far easier.”

On the subject of the Olympics, he said, “It’s great the feeling is great, the crowds are very excited and it’s great for the UK.”

Eddie Izzard’s Dad John, when asked what he thought of his son doing the run with the Olympic torch, said, “He’s a very bright young lad, he’s got the confidence to do things I’d never have done.

“He’s great.”

Greg Barker, MP for Bexhill and Battle, said, “It’s great to see Bexhill getting into the Olympic spirit and I’m absolutely sure this will be the greatest games ever.”

Sgt Sarah Porter from Bexhill Police said, “It’s a great turnout, really good to see people enjoying themselves and showing community spirit and support for Bexhill.”
