OLYMPIC TORCH: 3.15pm Now the workmen are filling in potholes

THOUSANDS of people have lined the roadside along Kings Drive as the countdown begins to the Olympic torch arriving in Eastbourne.

With the Olympic torch having arrived in Lewes and now making its way by road to Eastbourne, an expectant crowd has gathered for the convoy where Scouting stalwart, Sue Barber, is ready to carry the torch as it weaves its way through the town.

Crowds of three to four deep have gathered from Kings Close past Thomas a Becket School and all the way down to Enys Road. Police are about the closed the road to traffic.

Sussex Police reported that there is a good festive atmosphere and that everyone in good spirits.

Prior to the Olympic torch arriving, workmen from East Sussex County Council’s Highways Department have been temorarily fixing potholes in the road, which has caused traffic to back up and led to delays.
