Ninfield & Hooe village voice

Edna Wallis and Maureen Poppy were kept very busy making certain that all those attending the meeting were made welcome, in particular new members and the visitors. The speaker for the meeting was Margaret Crisp who gave a most interesting and informative talk on the subject of being a solo traveller. Margaret was a loan traveller for many years, after her first husband passed away, up until the time she remarried Bernard, who was a director of Cunard. Margaret however travelled solo both as a cruise passenger as well as going on adventure holidays, to far off places, such as Antarctica and the Andes and is now about to set off again on her own to the Galapagos Islands. Margaret is adventure personified; she is a keen under-water adventurer and has dived in most of the Worlds seas, including the Red Sea and along the Great Barrier Reef. The meeting was completed by the customary tea and chat, plus raffle and the popular “Trade Table”. Next month’s meeting will be held at the Village Hall on Friday April 13, when the speaker will be Jim Bolter who will give a talk on the mysteries of Michalham Priory. It is also our Easter meeting when the members will enjoy Hot Cross Buns and an individual chocolate Easter Egg. The group would like to thank Hooe Parish Council and Pam Doodes in particular for solving the problem of parking outside the Village Hall. Due to their efforts on their behalf they now have two clearly marked out Disabled Parking Bays directly outside the frontage, which will make all the difference to some of their members who are less able to walk any great distance.

Hooe Sports Football Club are in action tomorrow, Saturday March 17, against Spartan ’04 at William Parker School, Hastings. Kick off is at 3pm. Hooe Parish Council are holding a council meeting on March 19 at the village hall, all Hooe residents are invited to attend.

Ninfield Working Mens Club are holding a charity Coffee Morning on Tuesday March 20, from 10am-11.30am. there will be a Bric-a-brac, books, DVD’s and CD’s for sale along with a raffle. Should the weather be on the wet or cold side, an open fire will help to make the morning more enjoyable!

St Mary’s Ninfield, Lent lunches 2012. Enjoy homemade soup, bread and cheese, tea and coffee and a chat with friends at the Reading Room. Wednesdays from 12 noon -1.30 pm on March 21 and 28. Donations to a local charity, the church look forward to seeing you.

The Golden Circle is next meeting on Tuesday March 21, 2pm at Ninfield Memorial Hall, 7.45pm. Ninfield Horticultural Society are next meeting on March 21, 7.30pm at the Memorial Hall. Their evening session ‘Catching the Judges Eye’ should answer many of your questions about entering a Show. The judges’ advice will just be in time for you to enter their Spring Show on Saturday March 24. Schedules are available in the village Post Office. The Diamond Jubilee Committee are next meeting on Saturday March 24, 10 at the Ninfield Working Men’s Club. If you would like to join in the organising, please go along. There will be loads to discuss: Ninfield’s Got Talent, Carnival Queen, Pram Race, Olympic Themes etc!!!

March 25 sees many people raising funds for charities in the Hastings Half Marathon. The lovely Louise Murphy from the Red Lion, Hooe, is one of those lucky (or mad) people! Louise is running to raise money towards a wheelchair for the recently hospitalised Mo Bourner (a Hooe resident). If you would like to sponsor Louise you can find a sponsorship form at Ninfield Post Office and Ninfield Village Stores, alternatively pop into the Red Lion. Good luck Louise!

The next game of Whist Drive is on March 28 at 7.30pm in the Committee Room of the Ninfield Memorial Hall. Cost is £3 which includes a cup of tea or coffee. Go and give it a try - call 892057 and speak to Beryl for more information.

A fabulous time was had by those that attended the last Burlesque class... 17 lovely ladies who all looked brilliant doing the fun routines!!!! And they loved the atmosphere which was relaxed and very giggly! As a result the next class is Friday March 30 at the Memorial Hall, 7.15 - 8.30pm, £5 and they will be last Friday of the month thereafter... although some want to do fortnightly!! We’ll see! Please tell everyone (ladies) to go along, even if you missed the first one it doesn’t matter it’s easy to catch up and there will be new things too.

On Saturday March 31 there will be a Racenight at the Blacksmiths Inn to raise funds for St Micheals Hospice in memory of local Mum Helen Jaworanski. The event will start at 7.30pm and the MC for the evening will be Mr Stevie D. Everyone welcome.
