NEW DEVICE PINS CRIMINALS DOWN

POLICE report encouraging results after the Force's automatic number plate reader operation has been running for two weeks in the north and south Wealden areas.

A total of 16 arrests have been made for offences ranging from theft, warrants, disqualified driving, going equipped for burglary and failing to answer to bail.

There have been 66 vehicles identified as 'of police interest' which have been stopped and several other tax and insurance offences were also detected.

Sgt Dave Price said: 'This piece of equipment is proving really useful in making it more difficult for criminals to move about.

'It will continue to be deployed on our roads.'
