ST MARY’S SUPPORTERS CLUB: SThe April diary is as follows: Tonight, Friday, is Bingo with cash prizes and raffle. Eyes down 8.30pm. Everyone welcome. WALLANDS SCHOOL: Our school was involved in National Demo Week in Science lessons. We enjoyed lots of experiments including erupting volcano’s, seed explorations, dissolving skittles and more. We have had 11 children all successfully complete their Bikeability training so far this year, we are sure they will heed their lessons whilst out on the roads over the holiday. After winning our Lewes District Netball tournament our A and B team were amalgamated and eight of the children made a new team and competed in the Area Tournament held in Gildredge House School in Eastbourne, last week. This was a round robin tournament with everyone playing five games. Winning the tournament was a very close event, three schools all won four matches and lost one so it all came down to goal difference, Wallands were beaten by one point by Ringmer who will now go through to represent the area. Thank you to the parental support we’ve had throughout the season and well done to all the children. We took 21 children over to Tanbridge House in Horsham this week to compete in the area finals of the Indoor Athletics. Nine schools were representing their areas, in what was a rather noisy, exciting, busy event. The children all competed in their various events with great sportsmanship and willingness. Thank you to the parents who transported and supported the children. Dance Your Socks Off, an international dance night for all the family with professionals teaching Greek sirtaki, flamenco and bhangra with International food and drink on sale at St Mary’s Centre, Christie Road on April 22, 7pm to 11.30pm. Tickets £8 for adults, £5 for kids, from Wallands Patina cafe, King’s Framers and Si’s Sounds. This is a fundraiser for Moving On 2017 so please give your support.

ST MARY’S GARDEN CLUB: There were beautiful daffodils and tulips scenting the hall, looking fantastic at the Gardening Club Spring Show on April 1 at St Mary’s Social Centre.Visitors enjoyed displays of flowers, cookery, arrangements not to mention the entries of the children of the Cottage Preschool and the Rainbows. There was an excellent raffle and tombola and the cake, jam and book stalls did brisk business. Gorgeous home made cakes and tea were enjoyed at tables laid with cloths and decorated with spring flowers provided by our show secretary, Christine Gibson. Many thanks to Jo Langston for organising and serving the teas and to all the members who contributed by taking part and helping to make this event so successful and enjoyable. The number of entries was up considerably and the quality of the blooms was very good according to the judge, Doris Smallwood who is a daffodil expert. The joint winners of the Corporation Cup were Annie Hobden and Chris Gibson while the Ladies Cup went to Christine Gibson who also won the Russell Daffodil Cup. The Children’s Spring Cup Under 8 went to Freddie Hazelden and the Children’s Spring Cup Over 8 was won by Ellie Jupp who was also the winner of the Children’s Best Exhibit Trophy. Rosemary Sells and Christine Gibson were joint winners of the Rosemary Cup for cookery while Charlotte Soudain’s sumptuous Hot Cross Buns received the award for Best Domestic Item. Certificates were awarded to Christine Gibson for Best Flower, a daffodil in her entry for the Russell Daffodil Cup and Best Arrangement, A Woodland Walk.
